Invitation is focused on introducing the contemplative life to those who are unfamiliar. In the gospel narratives, we see Jesus seeking out “a quiet place to pray” on a regular basis. We don’t know everything he did, but we have a rich and ancient tradition of concepts and practices which hold firm to the belief that we can indeed share an intimate connection with Our Father and unity with other followers as we live out the life of Christ together (John 17). While some practices may feel unfamiliar at first, many will quickly find a place in the rhythm of our life and become a source of living water to our sometimes parched and windswept souls.
The group will be guided through several foundational prayer practices one-at-a-time throughout the weekend. Following each practice is a time for reflection and discussion. Don’t be intimidated by spending a weekend in prayer! There’s plenty of space for quiet and the Lover of your soul is kind and patient.
